Sega’s got some ‘big’ hardcore games to announce for 2011 and 2012

Surrender to me your secrets...

Despite the disappointing Alpha Protocol, 2010 looks to be an overall solid year for Sega in terms of keeping in line with the “hardcore” audience. Bayonetta garnered glowing reviews, Sonic 4 will be with us by the end of the year, and Vanquish has just been confirmed for October.

Once those are all out, how will Sega keep us writhing in ulcer-inducing anticipation?

When asked by CVG about the prospect of future hardcore games, Sega West president Mike Hayes mentioned that they’ve got a couple more aces up their sleeve:

Vanquish is getting a good response – that’s our big hope for the release later this year to keep us in the 360/PS3 core game slot.

Then we’ve got two other big games that we’ll be announcing this year for 2011 and 2012. So we’re not going to be overly aggressive – but we’re going to try to have one or two each year in that segment.

Hayes also mentioned one “good idea” for Kinect that may see the light of day in late 2001/early 2012, and some announcements pertaining to 3D releases “very soon”.

Let the speculation begin, folks!  What do you think?  Sequels you need? Fresh IPs?  Sega has such a massive catalogue of underutilized franchises from which I’d love to hear more, but it doesn’t seem likely that we’ll get anything from those.  How about Space Channel 5 on Kinect?  3D Samba De Amigo? Whaddya say?

  1. Tekken vs. Virtua Fighter. Just so Namco and Sega can work on a Tekken game together and allow me to die happily.

  2. Yeah, whenever I try to think of IPs I’d love to see, at least half of them tend to be mashups or crossovers. There’s something so appealing about that concept.
