Sega gives us a Kinect game to care about: Rise of Nightmares

This is certainly unexpected. At Microsoft’s Tokyo Game Show press conference Sega announced a new horror title coming exclusively to Kinect for Xbox 360. The game won’t be out unitl 2011, but it seems to be well worth the wait. Those who have seen the trailer are calling it genuinely scary, but those of us who are not lucky enough to go to Microsoft’s press conference will have to wait for that too. 1. I’m not sure how I feel about a Kinect Survival-Horror type game. If it is weaponless and scary (a la Amnesia), then this could be worth while.

What would be better though, is some scary looking creature coming through your TV and chasing you down in your living room. now THAT would make a great game!

  2. Not sure if this will work out well at all. People might be too focused on trying to get their motions correctly that they wouldn’t be paying attention to the atmosphere of the game, which would end up making things less scary. Then again, once they got the hang of things then they might be able to throw themselves in a bit easier, which would make the experience a lot more personal and terrifying.

  3. I’m interested by the concept, I’m not sure about the kinect feature.

We need more Penumbras or Amnesias for our scary games.

I just hope this isn’t very dumb horror like the Ring game was on Wii.
