Updated Weekly Contest: Phantasy Star Edition & More Sonic Adventure Codes!

The winner of last week’s contest for Sonic Adventure on XBLA is…. Skram! Congratulations and salutations!

News Update!: We have just been given 4 more XBLA codes for Sonic Adventure. So, in addition to a copy of Phantasy Star Collection for GBA we will also be drawing 4 more winners for the Sonic Adventure re-release. That’s a total of 5 chances to win! Amazing! Thanks to David at Sega for donating the extra copies of Sonic Adventure!

How to enter:

It’s simple really. At the end of each week (Saturday night), all of the comments left on any post on the site will be totaled up. Every comment you leave gives you one chance to be drawn as the winner of that week’s prize. So, the more commenting you do the better chance you have to win, but you do have a small chance of winning even if you only leave one comment that week.

Comments that are not relevant to a post will not count. They also have to have substance. Just saying “Awesome” on every post will get you nowhere, son. As long as you’re praising the author for a job well done, asking a question, adding some information, or even debating against one of the author’s points, your comment will count.

At the end of each week the comments will reset. Even if you left a bunch one week, you’ll have no entries unless you leave more the next week. But just think if you’re a big commenter you could potentially win four games a month! Wowza!

  1. My Sega fanboyness paid off? YAY! So am I supposed to get an email or send you an email or something <_< ?
I own all the first 3 Phantasy Star games from the Genesis Collection but I don't think I would want to play that on a TV. As you said I find some RPGs just more suitable on a handheld.

  2. I have seen the later games, but I really know every little about the first 3 games other than that they were Saturn titles, or at least the former collection was. Sounds interesting though 😀 I’m in

  3. Hey Skrams. I’ll be sending you an email with the redeemable code. It will probably be around Wednesday since the game doesn’t come out until then and thus I don’t have a code yet.

  4. Congratz Skrams!

Phantasy Star on the GBA, eh?
Is it a decent port of the Master System and Genesis games?
(Sonic the Hedgehog on GBA wasn’t very good.)

  5. Alright, I’ll bite. I totally agree that turn-based RPGs flavor best on portable consoles. I’ve really been into Shining Force on the iPhone, and since Phantasy Star II is now on there, I’m hoping it’s only a matter of time before the others make it there too. I’ve yet to play III, so this would likely be the best place to start!

  6. This and Shining Force are the only games I still play on my GBA.

  7. I never finished Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast because my disc suffered a tragic accident (I still have the box!).

So I’m looking forward to playing it on XBLA

  8. Wait, there are even more prizes now? Awesome. I havent played sonic Adventure in ages

  9. Just got the code in an Email, Thanks Alex!
And oh man 4 more codes? At least Sega has a lot of codes to giveaway even if getting them out a day late.

  10. I want to thank you guys for doing this little contest and rewarding your loyal fans. I for one can’t wait to play Sonic Adventure again.

  11. Sonic Adventure XBLA? Can you say, “Hell yes!” Granted, Halo:Reach JUST came out, but I’m willing to take a break for this game. Who doesn’t have some old school Dreamcast love raise your hand, so that I may break it. =)

  12. Sonic Adventure from the DreamCast is on Xbox Live Arcade? No one told me!

  13. I do have a question if I may. If we win a code for Xbox Live Arcade, may we trade it for a PSN code? Thanks.

  14. Love sonic adventure so much want this badly

  15. Sonic Adventure is my favorite. Played it on the dreamcast just last night :). I’ll try to make some good comments 😉

  16. @Bones00 – Unfortunately I can’t guarantee I’d ever have any PSN codes available to trade you so I probably wouldn’t be able to trade you. If Sega gives us some PSN codes when the game comes out on it we’ll probably do another contest.

  17. @Alex Riggen – I’d like to be excluded from the drawing this week. I don’t own a 360. Also, I dislike playing JRPGs or any lengthy games on handhelds. Good luck to everyone else.

Daguru, it’s not. It’s Sonic Adventure DX from PC. I’m still playing the hell out of it but Sega doesn’t need to lie like they did.

  19. @JetSetRadioForever – SA on XBLA is Sonic Adventure DX, except without the 60 additional missions and Metal Sonic as a playable character. Apparently there’s DLC to add those extra missions and Metal Sonic back into the game.

  20. @Alex Riggen Ok thanks. I’m looking forward to the game nonetheless.

  21. I don’t really care if this semi-question enters me to win, but for future reference, what if I already own Sonic Adventure for the 360? Because I do. It was a day one purchase for me. Can I use the code to, like, turn it to the DX version?

  22. @Atarifever I thought Sonic Adventure on XBLA was somewhat the DX version.

  23. @Khalid: To upgrade to DX version (with the extra levels or whatever; but minus the Gamegear games 🙁 ) costs an extra 400 MS points. The graphical touchups are apparently more like the DX version, but otherwise this is the DC version at the 800 price point.

Aside: I beat the first level in the under 2:00 mode and got the third emblem and I am now officially hooked on the game. Out of over 11,000 players, I am the 750something best at that level so far. I’m going to try to beat that by a lot yet.

  24. I already have Phantasy Star Collection so If i win it pass it on. But bring on the Sonic Adventure! I loved the Japanese commercials. They were full of lulz.

  25. I love Sonic Adventure. The only thing that could be better is Shenmue or Crazy Taxi.

  26. @Atarifever Alright thanks for clearing that up. I didn’t know about the DLC.

  27. I personally would love the Phantasy Star Collection.
