Sega promoting Dreamcast PS3 theme for Japan relief

Want the Dreamcast 2? Well for now this is the closest thing to it. Sega started promoting a Dreamcast theme for the PS3 in commemoration of the ongoing effort to repair Japan. The theme is completely free and totally awesome. I just installed it right before writing this article. The PS network is currently down, so if you can’t wait to get your hands on it hit the jump and I will walk you through the steps.

  1. Go here to download the American theme, or here for the European theme.
  2. Insert a USB memory stick into your computer.
  3. Create a new folder inside of the stick called PS3, caps do matter.
  4. Open your new folder and inside that make another new folder named THEME. Again make sure to do it in caps.
  5. Put the downloaded file into the THEME folder.
  6. Right click the file, go to rename and add .p3t to the end.
  7. Stick the USB drive into your PS3.
  8. Scroll over to Theme Settings.
  9. Select the top option Theme
  10. Go to the top where it says Install.
  11. Find your stick after you click install and select the theme from it.

If it doesn’t find a theme you probably didn’t do something right. Start over from step one and try again. Enjoy!

  1. This leaves a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth, with memories of triangle polygons and a DVD player powered PS2 coming to mind. Now the Dreamcast logo is all over the Playstation 3. I felt a similar sting when I saw Sonic mass produced for all consoles, including for the once arch nemesis, Nintendo.

Sega of yesterday is all but gone, the creative minds like Yuji Naka, Yukio Futatsugi etcetera are all fled from the once proud parent company.

It is a pretty theme, though. Just a little bitter sweet.

  2. This is nice and I’m happy there is an alternative to downloading from the PSN as that is impossible at the moment.
