Sega responds to requests for Yakuza 1 and 2 HD compilation

It’s no secret that rereleasing HD versions of classic PS2 games works. Just ask Team Ico or David Jaffe. With that in mind, Yakuza fans have been chomping at the bit for news about their beloved series – could we be getting HD versions of Yakuza 1 and 2 in the future?

As it turns out, the answer is no… Well, at least not yet. Associate Brand Manager Aaron Webber had some hopeful words to say on the matter,

“The thought of an HD pack with 1 and 2 is a cool idea to me, but the team is already working hard on localizing Dead Souls and their other projects in Japan. While it’s always too early to say what the future holds, for now at least, we’re full steam ahead with Zombies.”

It’s nice to hear that they aren’t going to spread themselves too thinly. Frankly though, Dead Souls really doesn’t pique my interest all that much. We’ve been beating this zombie horse to a pulp, and I’m not interested in anything as refreshing as Yakuza jumping on the undead bandwagon.

Anyway, as someone who’s only gotten the chance to try Yakuza 3, I’d be very interested in going back and starting the series from the beginning. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

  1. A 1 & 2 pack would be great, although SEGA did do a great job including all the cut scenes from the first two games in YAKUZA 3. Remasters are always welcome, though, and I know a lot of people didn’t get into the series until the third game hit, so I could see a lot of interest. At the end of the day, though, I’d rather see new games than remasters of old ones, so if that would mean SEGA stopping work on whatever else they have in the pipeline to accommodate this, then I’d say forget it.
