Sega cancels unannounced games due to lower profits

Bad news: Since profits are going to be halved for the fiscal year ending on March 31st, Sega is cancelling unannounced games in order to focus on better selling franchises. This means more Sonic The Hedgehog, Football Manager, Total War and Aliens– games and less new IPs or revivals of older franchises. So, over the next year or so, Sega won’t be taking risks like Shinobi for the 3DS. I also speculate a huge increase of re-releases of older games, just like we were able to see over the past few years. What’s worse is that more people are going to loose their jobs, which is always terrible.

  1. Worse news I’ve heard in a long time… So much for the return of risky forgotten franchises.

    • I agree. One of my main loves for Sega was their willingness to take risks. Obviously, that didn’t work out for them but I can only play Sonic so much until I want something new. I wonder what some of the other franchises they’re going to stick with are. Aliens: Colonial Marines still looks great but I’m not too excited for much else they’ve announced for this year.

  2. Feels like we are going backwards instead of forwards…back to when Sega first came into the 3rd party biz. Anyone up for Sonic And The Genie Lamp, Sonic And The Space Thingy, and several other odd Sonic crossovers?! YES! :/

If there was to be a Shenmue 3, I think this was its death knell (maybe even the HD remakes). Thank God they already announced JSR!
