Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 coming to iOS next week

Never content to sit on a pre-existing fighter when another port could milk fans of just a little bit more cash, Capcom is bringing their beloved mash-up Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 to yet another platform–the iPhone.

While a price point has not yet been announced, a European and American release date has: April 25th. This will be a full port, with all the standard characters and features included.

Underneath all my jaded sarcasm, I can’t deny that I am actually really excited about this. Anywhere MVC2 shows its glorious face, I am willing to go. I don’t care if I’ve heard “I wanna take you for a ride” more than just about any sentence in the English language. I don’t care if the touch controls will be about as effective as yelling commands at my phone. I hate myself for funding this port-obsessed behavior, but this is MVC2 we’re talking about. I would eat it if I could.

Does this make me part of the problem? Probably.

What about you guys? Anyone going to pick this up for the umpteenth time?

  1. I’m trying really hard to think how a game of this speed would translate well at all on a touch screen. If there is a demo, I will try it. And if you get this Josh, I will challenge you. TO THE DEATH.

Also, Josh, stop being part of the problem.

    • How did Street Fighter 4 work on iOS? I’ve never tried it but I believe they simplified it quite a bit. Maybe they’ll do the same thing here?

    Challenge accepted.

Yes I am part of the problem. Next thing you know I’ll be buying Operation Raccoon City.

  3. @Josh

I see what you did there.

SFIV on the iOS isn’t bad, but performing some moves and combos is kind of a shot in the dark, since it’s so hard to keep track of where your thumb is on the digital joystick. Movesets are simplified, too, so it’s certainly easier to play.

I don’t think MVC2 would work the same way though, since it’s such an old game, and a straight, lazy port would just be so much easier. I could totally be wrong, but Street Fighter IV’s ports all seemed to carry their own signifying benefits while every port of MVC2 has been nearly identical, so I have a hard time buying that the trend would change here, especially with MVC2 coming out on iOS so far down the line. It just seems to me like a last minute chance to snag an extra buck with a game that is guaranteed to rake in cash no matter what.
