Skies of Arcadia trademark renewed by Sega

Okay, you can wipe that silly shocked expression of your face as that’s about all there is to say about this news story. A hawk eyed NeoGAF member spotted the renewal of the Skies of Arcadia trademark, which had been approved on July 11th this year, leading to the obvious speculation of a HD remake to complement the string of Dreamcast and Saturn HD releases we’ve been promised by Sega.

The announcement of ‘Skies of Arcadia HD’ would of course be met with open arms by Sega fans as many consider it to be the must-have JRPG for the Dreamcast. Personally I would love to see Sega bring to light to a classic such as Skies of Arcadia that, despite a stellar Gamecube rerelease, has become largely forgotten. With another HD release I also hope to finally see ‘Dreamcast Collection Volume 2’. What are your hopes and (NiGHTS Into) dreams? Let us know in he comments below!

  1. I just hope that Sega is gauging the popularity of their franchises with these re-releases. Skies of Arcadia is just another one of their IP’s that could still bank if they could just get it together.

  2. An HD re-release would only be cool if they found a way to replicate the fun of the VMU perks and extras that made the DC game such a thrill to play. Otherwise, with the sped up fight times on the GC version, there isn’t a whole lot of reason to go back to the well on this 60+ hour RPG.

  3. I’m with grolt on this. I really hope Sega re-releases this game in HD but unless it comes to Vita I probably won’t be playing it. Replaying a lengthy JRPG that I’ve already played before is not very appealing to me. However, I am excited about the prospect of people playing the game who never had the chance before. Maybe that will get Sega interested in created some new content for the series.
