What We've Been Playing: 11/18/2012

Woah this is actually on time for once? Weird!

Yes it’s What We’ve Been Playing, where we type out what videogames we’ve played in our spare time! And remember you can always tell us what you’ve been playing in the comments! Have fun and read on!

Michael Westgarth – News Editor:
I’ve actually got a lend of Crysis 2, which I’ve been trying to work my way through. I fell in love with the original, which I like to call’ Predator The Game’ in the short bursts I’d played it round friends houses and have wanted to have the same experience in my own time. Sadly, bombing around the concrete jungle without Gary Busey and Danny Glover to hinder my progress isn’t as fun as I had hoped. It’s a good game, there’s no doubt about it, but the increased linearity of Crysis 2 over the original pushes it closer to the ‘just another shooter’ camp, which makes it a little less enjoyable for me.

I’ve also gone back to Super Meat Boy after completing the ‘main’ portion of the game back in the summer. I’m now trying to get more A ranks, complete more dark world levels, and get through those infernal Bandage Girl levels. As long as I play it in half hour bursts I don’t get too sweaty.

Finally, I started Donkey Kong 64. I haven’t gotten very far and have only just release Diddy Kong. My impression so far is ‘Banjo-Kazooie but with Donkey Kong’. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though.

I played World of Goo again! Holy shit does that game still hold up. Really fun and I recommend it if you’ve never played it before. It really balances themes and gameplay well. Also on iOS it plays like a dream.

I haven’t been playing much else to be honest. Sorry guys!!!

Nothing has changed for me this week. Still crackin’ on with Doom 3. It’s still scary, and I actually had to turn the brightness up for some parts, so that no badies would sneak up on me around dark corners. I am a giant child.

The ToeJam & Earl Vintage Collection is also serving me well. I miss the 90’s so much. But mainly I miss when games were just trying to be funny and fun instead of gritty and grey. I have a feeling that I am going to end up buying every Vintage Collection since so far I have not been disappointed with this one nor the Golden Axe set. Bring on that Model 2 package!

I also picked up Carcassonne on XBLA, as it was 50% off and I have enjoyed the real-life taple-top game with friends before. For those who are unfamiliar, Carcassonne is a tile-based, property owernship game. It’s nearly impossible to find anyone online playing the game since it released back in 2007, but single player is still fun. It’s also enjoyable to play on Easy mode and feel like a genius against the computer players. The game is really relaxed and a nice time waster. You can also play with up to 4 people on one console, which makes for less mess and clean-up than the real-life game. Hooray for the digital lifestyle!

And that’s this section for the week! Tell me your tales of what you’ve been playing in the comments!

  1. Is that picture an original piece Stevie? I swear I’ve seen it before, which bothers me so very much. I’ve seen enough bizarre fan art to last me a life time.

    Shadow’s packing heat.

  2. I can not take credit sir… too good for me.
