More Asian regions to receive Phantasy Star Online 2 localisations

sega addicts

Just when you’d thought Sega couldn’t rub it in any further, news has emerged that Phantasy Star Online 2 will be localised for numerous different Asian territories. Check out the list:

  • Thailand
  • Taiwan
  • Hong Kong
  • Macao
  • Singapore
  • Malaysia
  • Vietnam
  • Philippines
  • Indonesia

While these localised version aren’t out yet, Sega are allegedly planning to have each version up and running by 2014. As for an English version? Don’t hold your breath.

  1. Screw these jerk ass’s. I don’t even care anymore. EA has better fan support/customer service.

  2. This game is one of the reasons I’m keeping my Vita. Please don’t make me toss it in the garbage. And by, “garbage,” I mean light it on fire in a paper bag outside their front door.

    That’ll learn ’em.

While it sucks that PSO2 won’t be coming out in the West, you can hardly blame Sega. MMORPGs are insanely popular in Asia, mostly due to the PC being the only affordable gaming platform.

In the West however, PSO2 would have to compete with the console offering, Western orientated games and, of course, World of Warcraft. Not bring out PSO2 here is a business decision, not a spiteful one, and it’s a clever decision at that.

    • I 100% blame sega, whether it ends up here or not. Why? Because they won’t say a word about it. If its coming, give us a general date (fall 2013, spring 2014 etc) so we have a reason to hang on. If not, let us off the damn hook. If you go to the PSO 2 official website, they had to take down the forums because we fans were roasting them for being tight lipped (I went on it before it was shut off).

From what I’ve read, the English translation is in the Japanese version, it’s might just be a matter of setting up servers for it.

I don’t blame SOA, they are just lackeys at this point, I blame SOJ. I’d say they’ve written off the western market for all but the major releases, but they’re bringing Project Diva out here! It’s a slap in the face. I’m happy for Diva fans, but for PS fans it’s outrageous and it makes zero sense. Two games, both finished products, both heavily Japanese, one has a established fan base here, the other doesn’t.

That’s a fantastic point and one I hadn’t thought of, so thanks for setting me straight! I’m actually not a PSO fan and I haven’t been following the progress of PSO2’s localisation. Just like with Aliens: Colonial Marines, Sega seem to think that if they keep their mouth shut, it’ll all just go away.

I’ve stayed close to the Aliens: Colonial Marines story so that it WON’T just go away. I should have stayed closer to PSO2 and will do in the future.

Good comment, made me think :S

    • WoW isnt F2P, and it’s losing loads of subscribers. Those are potential PSO players…

Most F2P games that I’ve seen aren’t of the quality of PSO2, but maybe I’m biased. It doesn’t change the fact that by not at least officially canceling it, they are pissing off a lot of people. Nothing clever about a company with the financial/reputation equivalent of two black eyes and a broken nose pissing off yet another section of their fan base.

Being so secretive makes no sense. Lol it’s like being strung along by a girl you really like. She says she’ll let you take her out sometime, but always says no when you ask. At a certain point you tell her “this is bullshit, I’m done waiting for you, later”.

Ahem, white mice and midget gems, but yeah. I’m going to see if I can get some info on PSO2 from Sega’s PR department, brb.
