With the ever growing popularity and interest in video game nostalgia from both adults and new gamers alike, a large number of imitation hardware has entered the market. Innex, makers of the Retro-Bit series, are releasing the Retro Trio in March for $70. This clone system comes with three ports for NES, SNES, and Genesis play, along with the individual controller ports.

And here’s where I stop reporting and start warning, because as someone who has owned two Retro-Bit consoles where both have had their AV ports overheat and start producing smoke and plastic fumes, I cannot allow this news post to go by without telling you that there are better options. Specifically, the Hyperkin Retron line is a far superior product and has yet to force me to submerge one in water. I don’t want to claim expertise where I do not have it, but my own experience tells me to avoid Retro-Bit like the plague. Not only that, but the Hyperkin Retron 5 is coming, umm, eventually. It’s available for pre-order on Amazon and will play: NES, SNES, Super Famicom, Genesis, Mega Drive, Famicom, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and GBA. Not only that, but if you’re a Sega super fan and own one of those Master System Power Base Converters, you can use that too!

Or just buy a Genesis because who needs all of those consoles when you could be playing Phantasy Star IV.
