Yeah sorry about that video. I feel your pain.

Either way hello and welcome to games of the week! Yes, it’s another Tuesday update because I’m too lazy. Does anyone even read these? Let me check blah blah blah blah blah blah blah hit the jump blah blah blah blah blah.

Stevie Grant- Writer of Top 10 Worst and Boss Attack:
Another episode of Sam and Max. Replayed Bit. Trip Runner and Viriax which is a fun free indie game. I’d definitely give it a try. Nothing other then those games though. Maybe I’ll have more to say next week when Portal 2 is out on the Xbox. See ya then!

Josh Newey – Writer of With Great Power Comes Great Games and Underappreciated Gems:
After more than a week of waiting, arguing on the phone, installation crashing, and crying in the shower, I FINALLY have the internet in my new apartment. Good lord, what a clusterfuck. I will be starting a game of Spiral Knights tonight for review, as long as nothing else impedes my progress.

I’ve been playing a lot of handheld stuff this week, mostly on my iPhone. I picked up Rhythm Spirit, based on Colette Bennett’s recommendation on Bit Transmission. It’s a catchy, addictive little rhythm game, with a gorgeous art style. I’ve also played an hour or so of Rayman 3D, and as someone who’s never had the chance to try it on my DC, I’m absolutely loving it so far, despite its admittedly uneven 3D. I’ve been in need of a good platformer, and this is just the game I need to get me hooked to my 3DS, at least until BlazBlue and RE: Mercenaries comes out later.

Finally, I’ve played a bunch of MVC3 in the past 24 hours, now that I have my 360 back and a fresh new batch of internet. I downloaded Jill and Shuma Gorath… You know, those characters I paid for a good month ago. I find myself especially attracted to Jill (take that however you want to). Her dash moves are incredibly effective at psyching out opponents, and it’s almost too easy to string together solid combos. Playing her does remind me of a niggling confusion I had back when RE5 came out, though. Who is this and how the hell is she supposed to look like that loveable, awkward Jill of yesteryear? Thinking about MVC2, with lines like “I’m a member of S.T.A.R.S.,” I simply can’t buy that this is what she looks like now. It’s quite possibly one of the strangest choices Capcom has ever made with the series. Oh well. Boobs and leather.

Alexander Sargeant- Writer of Retro Reviews:
Finished Ar Tonelico 3, or rather just.. stopped playing it. I get what they were going for, but it’s definitely my least favourite Gust title. Good amount of flat-as-a-board young female stereotypes though, so that was at least a plus.

Tales of Symphonia, because 3rd Birthday (I don’t want to talk about that), AT3 and DA2 have really done a number on the RPG part of my brain. I also haven’t played it in seven years, which is apparently just enough time for me to forget almost all the plot elements. I even forgot there were summons in the damn thing. Still love hanging out with the characters too, which is maybe my favourite part of RPGs besides the wonderful abstract fighting systems. Sure, we’re saving the world, but I want to dick around as much as I can while I’m doing it.

Clash of Heroes HD rounded it off, as well as playing through X-Men 2 because it’s totally bitchin’, and I adore it. Sort of irks me that you can’t do 2 vs AI online, but you -can- locally, but everything else is fantastic. I finished Strania, though I am far from 1’CC ready for it. Funny when I find a game called Deathsmiles far less intimidating

Brett Hatfield- Community Manager and Writer of Megadriving:
Yakuza 4. Just… Yakuza 4. I’m not gonna get into details here. Just keep an eye out for the review coming Tuesday at the latest.

Stan Spurgiesz- Writer of Night of the Living Console:
I scored House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return this week. This is my first exposure to House of the Dead 3. I love the alternate routes and ability to rescue your partner. However, House of the Dead 2 still has it beat in the voice acting department.

Tom Kyzivat- Artist and Podcast Co-host:
Oh, you know… Marvel vs Capcom 3. I’m hoping to play something else in addition to that, one of these days. Mike finally bought Limbo on XBLA, so I’m eager to give that a shot soon!

Kris Knigge- Reviewer and Podcast Co-host:
I’ve been busy, but the Dreamcast looks great through VGA, Sonic Jam is quite good, and Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga is a game.

Also, Darkstalkers.

Alex Riggen- Editor in Chief and Podcast Host:
I’ve been working my way through Cryostasis on PC. It’s a decent survival horror FPS but its starting to drag on a little too long. The visuals and atmosphere of being out on a frozen ship are great but I’m over six hours in and the environments have barely changed at all. The enemy variety is interesting and changes up a little more but since the combat is a clumsy the more difficult enemies are more frustrating than anything.

Overall, it was worth the $5-10 I spent on it and I am interested in seeing what the developer, Action Forms, does next. They’ve laid the groundwork for what could turn into a really good horror FPS. They just need to work on pacing and improve the combat. Or go the Amnesia route and remove combat altogether.

And that was this week! Remember to tell me what you’ve been playing in the comments and I’ll join you next week for the amazing Easter special. WOAH!
