Dreamcast Marathon: 4PM (Eastern) Update

Ok, I have to be completely honest with everybody here– I am not sure that I’m going to make it. Over the past couple of hours, I have been struggling with every fiber of my being to stay awake, but it just isn’t happening.

My first mistake was to choose Ecco The Dolphin as my next game. Everything about that game is so relaxing, from Yanni-esque music, to the pleasant swimming mechanics, to the cool blue tonesssssssssssZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…..Wha?…..NO!  WAKE UP! The bit that I played was actually quite fun, and since this was my first time even trying the thing, I am very interested in taking a big bite out of it. Everything is just so conducive to relaxation (except the difficulty, of course). I can’t wait to play more, just as soon as I’ve had a decent 8 hours of sleep.

After that, I convinced myself that a cup of coffee and an engrossing adventure might shake me back to reality. I put in Grandia II and sat back, ready to be sucked into a gorgeous, epic world. Then it hit me– this is an epic JRPG. How the hell am I going to stay awake while the story’s gears get some momentum?  Sure enough, despite some of the prettiest art design I’ve seen so far in this marathon, I started dozing off almost immediately.  By the time I reached 3:30, my eyes refused to stay open any longer. I loved Grandia II as a kid.  I just hope I am still capable of loving it today.

I haven’t given up yet, but I can’t express just how difficult this has become.  I have been awake since 6AM Friday morning.  I need a miracle game to energize me right now.  That’s the only way I stand any chance of surviving until 9PM tonight.

John, I can’t blame you one bit for ducking out.  You are the smart one.
