Sega (not very) sneakily sneaks in self-references into Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F

Do you have rhythm? Do you like fictional, but strangely cute Japanese pop-artists? Then surely you’ve heard of Hatsume Miku: Project Diva F – Sega’s musical rhythm game starring the one and only Hatsune Miku (and friends).

While there is a lot to mention about this release, Kotaku has touched on its surprising references to other Sega products. In the video for the song “remote control”, Kagamine Rin can be seen using what can be identified as a Sega Dreamcast controller. She cleverly uses it to force her brother, Kagamine Len, into becoming a dancing duo with herself. If only it worked that way on siblings in real life.

Further callbacks can be found to other Sega products – the song “Online Game Addicts Sprechchor” contains blatant references to Phantasy Star Online 2. Hatsune Miku controls an Avatar to perform a concert within the game. Clever.

Can you find any other little Easter Eggs?

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F has been released in Japan on two platforms: the PS Vita in August 2012, and the PlayStation 3 in March 2013. Unfortunately there are no plans for a Western release, which I think is a shame – I am more than ready to get my rhythmical groove on.
