Sonic Generations Official Soundtrack now available on iTunes

There’s a lot to love about last year’s fantastic Sonic Generations. Other than a small handful of niggling hiccups like the abysmal final boss or the overly long Planet Wisp stage, Sonic’s 20th birthday celebration really marked a return to glory for the blue blur. That was due in part to a wonderful soundtrack that remixed classic, catchy jingles from stages like Chemical Plant and Sky Sanctuary to give them a new twist that felt at once refreshingly new and pleasantly nostalgic.

Now that Sega has released the tunes of Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colors, Sonic CD, and a multitude of other Sonic titles, it’s time for one of the best Sega soundtracks in recent memory to finally get its due…Well, for the most part.

Sega of Japan has revealed that the soundtrack for Generations is now available on iTunes. But unlike the original version, which was comprised of a hefty 90 tracks, this newly released version has been whittled down to just 60 songs in two volumes. Noticeable omissions include the credit and cut scene music, as well as the 10-minute White Space Medley. All the essential in-stage music is included, but more hardcore fans may be a tad disappointed that this isn’t really the entire listing.

Whatever the case, I can’t wait to get my hands (and ears) on this lovely music. Each 30-track volume is going for $9.99 on Apple’s download service.
