Earlier this week, Sega and Hakuhodo DY Holdings revealed that they are officially in cahoots with Hollywood on a new production studio called “Stories.” The aim of the project is to collaborate with Hollywood writers, producers, and directors to bring Japanese properties to movies, toys, and TV. Even though they are working with Japanese IPs, the website does promise a focus on English-language content.
“Stories” is already chugging along, with progress being made on getting the rights for multiple projects, including one by sci-fi writer Yasutaka Tsutsui (best known for Paprika and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) as well as one based on an unknown Japanese TV show. The studio will be able to utilize the parent companies’ properties, so we could ostensibly see a project or two for us Sega fans in the future.
Intriguing, to say the least. The concept of Sega working with Hollywood in any capacity has this cinephile gamer frothing at the mouth. What about you folks?
