Programmer, Sprybug has had some history putting video game heroes on the Atari 2600 when he first threw Mario on there. Now, he’s trying his hand at Sonic, and it sounds like things are going well. The screenshot above shows that he even has rings and loops in the game. However, in recent forum posts, Sprybug reports that he has a bit more done besides just rings and loops,
I’ve got a partial level made with more platforms, tv item boxes, invincibility and shields. So far its working. I’ve still got to add slowing down momentum in ball form and not popping into the skid sprite in mid-air when reversing your path. I’m also aware of the skid running bug too.
This is pretty amazing if you ask me. It’s funny how impressed I am with this while games today brag about the hundred-plus polygons in a character’s face. Check out the short demo for “Zippy,” here.
