Sonic Generations is just around the corner, and I’m sure plenty of people are eager to get the chance to compare some of the original stages with their reimagined counterparts. Sega is making that a little easier, as Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka recently announced that players will be able to unlock the original Sonic The Hedgehog in the new anniversary title.
A neat little touch, for sure. Sonic 1 may not be considered to be the best 2D entry, but it really is a fitting gesture to reacquaint players with Sonic’s roots. Generations really is looking more and more like the ultimate celebration of everything that Sonic was, is, and can be. NOVEMBER 1st NEEDS TO HAPPEN NOW.

Sega Bits has the best pic for this hands down: http://segabits.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/sonic-generations.jpg
Wish they’d put Sonic 3 and Knuckles in instead to make up for it not being on Genesis Classic Collection, but I’ll take what I can get.
@Brett
I’d love that too, probably because it’s the only way Knuckles would be playable in the game (sigh…). Still, you have to admit that Sonic 1 just makes a ton more sense. If anything, all four of the originals would make more sense than awkwardly jumping to the last Sonic game of the Genesis era.
