After being lazy and not posting a listener question post for a few weeks, I’ve given myself a much needed pep talk and here it is! This week we’ll be continuing with Part 8 (of 347) of our Acclaim on Sega mega-series! The games to be discussed are:
- Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball (Game Gear, Genesis, Saturn)
- Revolution X (Genesis, Saturn)
- Galactic Attack (Saturn)
- Myst (Saturn)
- Scooby Doo Mystery (Genesis)
If you’ve got questions or comments on any of these games, Acclaim or Sega in general leave them in the comments below before Thursday night.
Galactic Attack = awesome. This game introduced me to shmups. Maybe Kris will have something to say this time around regarding that as well!
But I jest.
So about this Acclaim stretch, are you guys having more fun heckling the YouTube vids than you have had in the past with series you were actually familiar with? Because it definitely seems that way.
Good luck with the other 339 iterations of Acclaim!
Woo, it’s back! Well aside from the questions I asked on that other post, here are a few comments.
Unlike you guys, I actually thought digitized graphics were the bee’s knees. I couldnt get enough of them. So yep, I loved the much maligned Revolution X. It had a ridiculous storyline, but I thought it was so frickin cool. Actually the storyline made Shaq-fu seem like a brilliant piece of literature Plus adolescent fetus me got to see sexy bikini women dancing in cages.
On a non-acclaim, but digitized graphics related note, yes, I also went bonkers for corpse killer.
Further branching out from the original topic, I thought FMV was the wave of the future. Still think it could be. Anyone want to help me start a petition for the next Aliens game to be an FMV adventure? Or maybe we could do a kickstarter for the not-forgotten Sega Addicts game, it’d be perfect as an FMV.
Back on topic: It’s strange, I never really paid attention to what publishers/dev’s made what games, so I always thought Acclaim was supposed to be this mega studio, pumping out great titles. So far, they seem on par with LJN, which is crazy. Was it only Mortal Kombat that made them famous? So few of the titles you’ve showcased were memorable games.
It looks like Alexs constant plug-in-fodder paid off now that Yu’san is showing interest in a 3rd Shenmue.
Alex, what is your next move?
Under the same development circumstance that Gearbox preformed on Aliens Colonial Marines for Sega, would we have heard the same outcry if Acclaim were alive today and been the publisher? I kinda think what the answer might be SO… Why not?
I played Galactic Attack and believe I liked it. Just don’t remember the game play. Revolution X I played also on the Saturn, FPS I think. Only remember Aerosmith & Crappy graphics.
Question: What if it was maybe Metallica? Would that make the game look better?
I would play it today only if it was their old stuff and I were wearing sunglasses!
