Sega has never been known to hold back on their marketing but we should be seeing an exponential growth in the companies merchandise output as they plan to increase their branding for the Mega Drive/Genesis’ 25th anniversary. At this year’s Licensing Expo in Las Vegas Sega are reportedly planning to show off the retro brands currently being expanded on. This is set to include Altered Beast, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Shinobi and of course the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The main focus however is to be the anniversary of the Sega Genesis, which seems to have kick-started the new increase of product branding.
This new merchandising push is set to start in Latin America, with campaigns extending to new territories and familiar demographics throughout next year. Basically this means a ton of new merchandise for us addicts to look forward to. Toys, shirts, bed stuffs, and more seem to be waiting in the wings, so you better keep your wallet open as Sega are looking forward to hoovering up all your hard earned cash.
