The Dreamless Dreamcast Marathon Part 2: Closing Comments

Wait…Didn’t that happen like a week ago?

Yes, yes it did, but I just wanted to offer some closing words to wrap the whole thing up. Frankly, I was so drained last week that I could barely muster the strength to shuffle over to my bed, let alone write up one of my trademark self-effacing posts. So, to be fair to all the folks that actually took the time to come and chat with me as I struggled to maintain some semblance of sanity, I offer these following words: Thank you.

Hit the jump for my final ruminations on this debacle.

Despite trolls, myriad technical difficulties, and Sonic Adventure 2, the marathon was an absolute blast this year. Since my hands weren’t occupied with a keyboard–except when I was playing Typing of the Dead–I was actually able to get a hell of a lot more games played. I also loved the opportunity to chat up so many folks from the Sega Addicts community on the fly. I only regret that I didn’t have the necessary equipment to directly broadcast the images on my TV. But don’t worry, that will be changing very soon…

The downside of broadcasting instead of liveblogging? Well, the whole world got to see my sad, stumbling attempts to win a match in Project Justice, or hear my angry, exhausted grumbling as I just tried to get a single task done in Illbleed, or my out-and-out hatred of games like Sonic Adventure 2 (AND THAT’S NOT JUST CAUSE I SUCK AT IT, DR. SCOTTNIK). No matter how many times I do these, I always forget just how irritable I become at the 30-hour mark of no sleep. So to anyone kind enough to tolerate me struggling with the concept of Crazy Drifting at 6AM–much appreciated.

I’d also like to put out a special thank you to the ridiculously dedicated Dr. Scottnik, who stuck with me for a good FOURTEEN HOURS of the marathon, and gave me a lot of motivation to continue. I had a great time chatting with almost everybody that came to the feed, including some new folks who just wanted to see some good ol’ Dreamcast gaming.

Keep an eye out in the future for more marathons and streams like this one, as I am too bull-headed and self-destructive to stop now. I apologize for the lack of prizes this time around. I tried to wrangle some up, but time constraints and our recent JSR Hoodie extravaganza made that a little tough. I will definitely bring some into future streams.

Here’s a full list of all the games played this year (not in order because I don’t remember):
