Sega’s popular Japanese arcade series, Border Break, is getting shrunk down for the mobile market in Japan with Border Break Mobile. Like many other games of the digital card genre, players will be able to download the game for free and then play real moneys to purchase more cards and items so they can beat players who don’t want to spend as much money as them on the game.
Personally, I’ve always wanted to see the Border Break games make it to the West but I’m okay with this staying in Japan. These card game spin-offs and sequels many great franchises are getting do little to interest me and it’s unfortunate that they’re so easy to do and low risk for publishers. Now, if the profits went to developing new games in the series I’d be all for it but if Valkyria Chronicles or Sakura Wars are any proof, that’s probably not going to happen.
