Not too long ago, we reported on a project headed by Ecco the Dolphin creator, Ed Annunziata. The project, entitled, The Big Blue had a rather high goal for Kickstarter with $665,000 in mind. At the time of writing this, just over $53,000 has been raised with over 800 backers. These numbers are impressive on their own, but not when you consider the final goal to be met in less than a week.
Recently, Annunziata announced a Plan B, which he is titling, “The Little Blue Stepping Stone.” This new project is a Kickstarter project with a smaller goal in mind, which will lead to the final production of Big Blue. A bit confusing at first, but Annunziata goes on to explain,
When the Little Blue gets funded, we will build it, and then everyone can try it out and see what the potential is. We will tune the Little Blue to make it as fun as possible and make everyone who plays it want more. Then we will use the Little Blue and it’s success to leverage the rest of the budget to build the Big Blue at full scope. If you can play Little Blue and feel it you will have much less doubts about the Big Blue.
So Little Blue is a Kickstarter… for a Kickstarter. Annunziata says that if Little Blue gets funded it will be distributed for free, along with links directly to the second part of the Kickstarter: Big Blue Part 2.
The Kickstarter goal for Little Blue was not listed anywhere, but there are a few specs on the game as well as emphasis placed on the community that Big Blue has already formed.
It’s good to see that Annunziata understands the expectations were set a bit high at first, and that this project should really start small if the team wants it to evolve into the massive size they have in mind. Here’s hoping things pan out for Big Blue.
