Toejam & Earl creator bringing new franchise Doki-Doki Universe to modern consoles

If you’re a Sega Addict there’s a good chance you’re a big fan of Toejam & Earl already (which we definitely are), but if you somehow missed the experience all I can tell you is we certainly find it hilarious and we’d love to see it remade. In fantastic news, the creator of that title, Greg Johnson, has a new adventure on its way called Doki-Doki Universe from his new studio HumaNature and it’s coming to PS4, PS3 and Vita.

A multi-generation experience, Johnson intends to make the experience accessible for everybody. The full project is described as a “set of related products that will be released at the same time”, though what we know so far is it will feature a messaging app for mobile devices as well as a “light” version of the client, not providing the full game but giving players the opportunity to travel the universe, socialise and take part in “personality quizzes.” Johnson described the genre as mash as “RPG/Simulation/Interactive Story”, and it seems to be more about the journey than where you end up, following a robot as he travels strange universes in search of his own humanity.

Find out more over at Johnson’s blog post about the game or GameInformer’s interview with the man himself.
