Sega of America has laid off an undetermined number of employees due to what it claims is an “ever-changing environment” and the suspected growing costs of game development and publishing.
Although the number of employees affected is reported to be small, Sega of America has released a press statement elaborating on the facts.
“As the gaming industry continues to evolve, companies must adapt and adjust in order to compete and succeed in an ever-changing environment. As a result of this, Sega of America has recently undergone a restructure that will enable the company to focus efficiently on developing new and existing content across digital platforms as well as continuing to focus on key brands for packaged goods.”
Sega may be turning its attention entirely to PC publishing which has been quite profitable, but it’s sad to see employees get laid off even if it’s due to a shifting gaming climate. Please leave your thoughts in the comment section.
