I love any kind of case mod/custom art for any sort of console or arcade stick, but this one is particularly inspired. A wonderful aesthetic feature of the MK1 Mega drive (and Genesis) was the ring embossing around the cartridge slot, and what artist Paul Burke decided to do was recreate the artwork from the original Sonic The Hedgehog opening so that the winged medal design aligned with the ring on the console. Which is the SMARTEST IDEA EVER.
Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but I really do think that’s a stroke of genius. More images can be found on the artist’s flickr account, including some less Sega-related art, though equally as awesome if not more so. Fantastic work, Burke! Although I’m contractually obligated to conclude that you’re no Tom Kyzivat.
