New James Pond game rising from the briny deep with Kickstarter

Sega fans who grew up in the Genesis/ Mega Drive days will remember James Pond fondly. For the unfamiliar, James Pond was a side-scrolling platformer that tried some different things such as vehicle-usage, and upward progression as opposed to solely running from left to right. As the title suggests, it has plenty of sea and fish jokes in tow with James Bond spy spoofs. Well, Mr. Pond is at it again if this new Kickstarter succeeds!

As you see in the video above, the original designer, Chris Sorrell, is working on bringing James Pond back with the help of fans and the company Gameware. The Kickstarter goal is £100,000 (roughly $160,000) and currently stands at £14,000 at the time of this writing.

I think it’s great to see a Genesis/MegaDrive getting not just a revival, but an entire new chapter. It’s even more exciting that the original designer is behind the wheel. What do you think? Are you excited? Did you already donate? Someone already donated for the highest £5,000 pledge! Don’t forget to support them on Facebook and Twitter and let us know what you think below!
