You can say goodbye to any hopes of a Western version of Yakuza 1 & 2 HD, as the recently released Wii U version of Yakuza 1 & 2 HD isn’t even of interest to to Japanese gamers.
According to the Japanese videogame news outlet Dengeki, the Wii U version of Yakuza 1 & 2 HD, which has only been out for a week, has not entered the Japanese top 50 videogame sales chart. Seeing as the spot for 50th place requires a game to sell over 2,000 copies, it’s safe to assume that Yakuza 1 & 2 HD for the Wii U has sold less than that amount.
Considering Yakuza 1 & 2 HD has been available to the Japanese on the PlayStation 3 since late 2012, it’s really no surprise that its newly released Wii U counterpart has sold poorly, although the extent to which it has failed is nonetheless remarkable.
One can’t help but wonder if Yakuza 1 & 2 HD for the Wii U would have sold better if it was released in North American and Europe. What do you think? Leave us a comment below and let us know!

Shame, would have been nice to break the Sony monopoly on Yakuza.
Is the wii u doing as bad in Japan as it is in America too?
How is the WiiU doing anyways? I haven’t been keeping up on anything
Last quarter, April-June 2013, the Wii U only sold 160,000 units internationally. So, it’s been doing very badly, abysmally. But the game drought is ending finally, so sales should start picking up. At least one exclusive per month should start moving more units,
Nintendo is betting on it at least, given they still estimate 9 million Wii Us sold by the end of March 2014.
Games this Year Ending the Drought:
Exclusives:
August: Pikmin 3, New Super Luigi U, Pokemon Rumble U (eShop),
September: The Wonderful 101
October: The Legend of Zelda – The Windwaker HD, Sonic Lost World
November: Donkey Kong Country – Tropical Freeze, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi Olympics 2014,
December: Super Mario 3D World, Wii Fit U, Wii Party U
Major Multiplatformers:
August: Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Disney Infinity
September: Scribblenauts – A DC Comics Adventure, Rayman Legends (formerly a Wii U exclusive :c ),
October: Batman: Arkham Origins, Assassin’s Creed 4, Skylanders Swap Force, Just Dance 2014,
November: Call of Duty: Ghosts, Watch_Dogs,
It’s too bad they didn’t put this game out in the west. I don’t think we got this when they released it in Japan on the PS3? And we never got the first game localized? So it may have sold much better here.
