Considering all the Genesis classic packs that Sega has been pumping out on Steam in the last several months, it’s surprising that this latest (and arguably best) group of Genesis gems has received so little fanfare.
Yesterday, some of the very best games that the Genesis had to offer hit Valve’s loveable little download service, including:
- Dynamite Headdy
- Beyond Oasis
- Golden Axe III
- Phantasy Star II
- Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom
- Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millenium
- Streets of Rage III
- Revenge of Shinobi
- Wonder Boy in Monster World
- Vectorman 2
Quite a list indeed. All of these are going for $2.99, and most of them are definitely worth every penny and more. If you haven’t played Dynamite Headdy, drop whatever you are doing (I don’t care if it involves sharp or deadly objects, this is Dynamite freakin’ Headdy we’re talking about), and pick up that game right NOW.
Any classics from this list you folks have been aching to try? I might go for Vectorman 2 myself.
What I really want to see are these games, particularly the RPGs, being released on mobile platforms. Shining Force and Phantasy Star II worked wonderfully on the iPhone – turn-based games have the possibility to use the touch screen a lot better than other games. They lend well to starting and stopping on the fly, too, considering their lengths. If you have a PSP you can get the Phantasy Star series on the SEGA Genesis Collection, but still, I want to see more of their RPGs on the App Store.
