Some footage has recently appeared online of what was to be a new Streets of Rage game developed by Ruffian Games (Crackdown 2). A developer from Ruffian Games has confirmed via his Twitter account that the footage is indeed from the cancelled game and what you see is actual gameplay.

It’s unfortunate that the game got cancelled as I really like what I see from this early footage. The throwback to the original game in the arcade in the beginning was a nice treat and the gameplay itself looked like a fun 3D brawler. Enough about my thoughts though. What do you think? Should Sega have canned this project or do you think it had potential? Does it feel like a true Streets of Rage sequel?

  1. Come ooooooon, why was this never released? Aside from the fact that 3D brawlers are pretty much a dead genre and the fact that it’s yet another gritty reboot…. but really now.

If marketed correctly, this could have been as successful as I had hoped for the Splatterhouse reboot.

I’m gonna go play Double Dragon Neon to fill another void in my fanboy heart.
