Just a handful of days away from the game’s U.S. release, Sega has finally posted a new trailer for the amazing-looking and depressingly under-marketed Anarchy Reigns.
Following in the footsteps of the plethora of character-specific trailers Sega released over six months ago, this new video introduces us to Douglas, one of the multitude of warped personalities you’ll be playing with in Platinum’s latest. As the story goes, Douglas lost his family to bloodthirsty mutants, and only survived himself as a result of a complete cybernetic makeover. Now, he’s on a crusade for revenge against any and all mutants.
As great as this trailer looks, it’s hard to watch it and feel anything but bewildered frustration. Other than Gamestop’s exclusive DLC, this is the first general advertising we’ve gotten ever since Sega confirmed that the game was still coming westward. I can grant that a publisher might want to avoid spending marketing money while a game is in limbo, but once its western release is re-confirmed, there is no excuse for not doing something to remind gamers who aren’t already Sega fanatics that Anarchy Reigns even exists. Releasing a single trailer just days before the game’s release is doing nobody any favors, least of all the developer.
Rant aside, I have been drooling over this game for years now, so the thought that I will finally have the chance to play it this week is almost too much to bear.
I reserved and paid off this game 2-3 months ago. Seriously, I forgot about it and didn’t realize it is launching today until GS sent me a text. Pathetic.
