It’s hump-day, which means it’s time again for everyone’s favourite feature about people talking: Forum News! Last week I was a little bit overwhelmed with the sudden burst of awesomeness that was the rebirth of our forums so Forum News looked a little bit more like a list, but this week I’ll be able to spend a little bit more time on everything. The vast majority of the posts from last week are still going strong, so feel free to refer to last week’s article, as it is largely still relevant. That said, there were a ton of new threads that launched this week, and important new developments in last week’s threads that are worth a mention. So join the forums if you haven’t already, and then hit the jump to learn about all the neat stuff happening in there.
As a last minute note I want to mention that Monday the 4th was the one-year anniversary of my first post at Sega-addicts and tomorrow, the 7th, will be the one-year anniversary of the Forum News Feature. We’ve come a long way Sega-addicts, and I want to thank you for your continued support of the forums and the site in general. Without you there would be no reason for me to write Forum News since I would have nothing to talk about and no one to read it. I really appreciate it. Here’s to Forum News, and more importantly Sega Addicts!
Before we begin I guess I should take care of the boring administrative stuff. I just want to remind new members that you are all encouraged to introduce yourself. It’s a great way to meet people who frequent the forums, as well as quickly get off-topic on something relevant to your interests. Seriously, some of the funniest conversations seem to be happening in Introduction threads. After that feel free to swing by our Forum board to acquaint yourself with the rules, badges, and other stuff like that. You can also learn about or report any known issues users have been having. As of right now there seems to be an issue with the formatting of the quick reply box.
You may have also noticed on The Forum board that the person posting the 1000th post will win a Sega-Addicts t-shirt. Well, we are proud to announce the winner was forum user Stoolball. Congratulations Stoolball, and thank you to all users who have helped us reach such a high count in only 2 weeks! With the forums this exciting I wouldn’t be surprised to see more contests of this sort. On that high note, lets get to the fun stuff.
On the podcast board and food sub board things were a little quiet since there wasn’t a podcast this week. However, some exclusive information about the future of the podcasts was revealed. When I write it like that it sounds pretty ominous, but it’s actually not bad news. Basically from now on Food Addicts will drop on the last Thursday of every month, which will give us more time to release Sega Addicts podcasts. Neat. We also learned a little more about The Sega Addicts Kids Table. It’s actually just a podcast hosted by writers Stevie Grant, John Doherty and Josh Newey, so keep checking back for more details on that. As for everything else on these two boards, last week’s article is still up-to-date. The same can be said for The Website board, with the exception of my Forum News thread. But no one likes a self-promoter, so I won’t say too much about that.
As for the Bar, well, The Bar is The Bar and Stevie’s Forum is Stevie’s Forum; that’s about all you need to know. Oh and that those links are NSFW in any way shape or form, unless you work at a bordello or something. Oddly enough both currently contain sexual spins on the Sonic the Hedgehog universe. We’re odd people here at sega-addicts.com. Hey, after you have a wank over Sonic you can be ashamed of yourself and try to distract yourself from these feelings by telling us what you’re afraid of. The Bar is definitely not for the easily corrupted.
As always the Sega board was a hotspot in our forums. In addition to all of the threads that I drew your attention to last week we now have a thread dedicated specifically to Sega songs. Sega has had some great music in it’s games over the years, so go ahead and tell us which songs are on your mind. This post actually sprang up while I was writing this article and it already has 10 replies. Quite impressive indeed. We also have a thread celebrating the 15th anniversary of the release of NiGHTS for Sega Saturn. Not surprisingly this thread features music from the game. This thread was also a fairly new one (it launched on Tuesday) and it already has 9 replies. Sega gaming is where it’s at this week!
Not a Sega fan? I’ve actually used that joke a lot over the past year, mainly because it keeps being funny to me. Luckily no one really picks apart my articles piece-by-piece, so I can reuse jokes all the time and no one really seems to care. I also reuse intros a lot because I find them to be the hardest part of the article to write. This redundant and irrelevant intro to the Non-Sega Gaming Board was new though. It also sucked, unlike Open World Games, which are actually very fun. So get into that thread and tell us all about the expansive virtual cities you’re wreaked havoc upon. If you can’t get enough Sega on the Sega board you could totally talk about games like Shenmue in that thread too. Score! But hey, some of us just love to kick the holy hell out of stuff and we Sega Addicts support that desire. That is why we now have threads on Tekken and BlazBlue! Actually it’s because Community Manager Brett Hatfield (or Saiyavenger) is a huge fan of both games and he’s recruited a ton of awesome people who are also fans. So if you’re a fan of either/or you will be in good company.
The Entertainment board was also massively popular this week. In addition to all of last week’s threads, we now have a few new interesting ones. If you’re a fan of the show Wolverine and the X-men, and if you watched the marathon on NickToons on July 4th, there is a thread for you! Even if you didn’t watch the marathon or haven’t seen the show you should check it out because it actually seems pretty interesting. Another interesting TV show we discussed is Adventure Time. Personally, I’m a huge fan and I recommend that thread to anyone who likes laughing, cartoons, nonsense or breathing. Finally, let’s talk about cartoons from across the ocean: Anime! Obviously this thread is blowing up, so get in there and tell us all about your favourites! It’s actually a really useful recommendation thread as well if you’ve not really watched much anime or if you’re looking for something new.
Finally, the Creativity board stayed busy with new posts in almost all of last week’s topics, as well as several new ones. I started a thread all about photography, which has already got a few replies and some very nice pictures. Even if you’ve never done anything artistic these threads are definitely worth checking out. Finally we now have a thread for any art you’ve made that’s unrelated to Sega. As wonderful and inspiring as Sega is, surely not all of us base all of our art around it, so show us what else you’ve done!
Well, that’s it for me. Don’t forget that there are plenty of great threads other than the ones I’ve mentioned here. In fact, there are so many that it’s hard for me to address them all, so I tend to only point out the newer ones. So check last week’s post, or just lurk around in the forums for a bit and I’m sure you’ll find something else that’s relevant to your interests. If you can’t find anything you like, by all means, post your own topic. There are a ton of threads in there, but the forum is only 2 weeks old so there definitely are topics we haven’t covered yet. Don’t be afraid to start up a discussion about something you like, no matter what it is. For now, I shall see you in the forums.
It feels good contributing to this fine community, I feel…………………..home *cue music*
