Sometimes Aliens get excited and announce their games a bit early

The release date for Aliens Colonial Marines was recently announced with a trailer. Many people are complaining that the game has been in production way too long for it to only get pushed back until 2013. Haters gonna hate. That’s how the internet works. Randy Pitchford of Gearbox Software recently explained the situation.

Because the game was ‘announced’ with that original press release, it might feel, to those of you who have been waiting for the game since then, that it has been in development a long time. In fact, with the release date now set, it turns out that the total development time we have spent creating Aliens: Colonial Marines is about the same length of time as we had spent creating the original Borderlands or the original Brothers in Arms – both games that we had waited to announce until we were much farther along in the development process.

Pitchford also stated that the game was in the late prototype stages when it was first announced. So really there isn’t anything to worry about. I am honestly more relieved that they are not trying to go up against their own giant with Borderlands 2 around the holidays or that little Call of Duty franchise. What do you think, fair readers? Are you relieved to hear Randy Pitchford’s explanation? Did you want Aliens under your Christmas tree? Let us know in the comments below!
