Danica Patrick will appear in the Sonic Universe comic for some stupid reason

I guess I owe you an apology.

If you’re like me, you’ve been seriously considering pouring acid into your ears to finally rid your brain of the horrible image of Danica Patrick and Sonic standing together. And now here I am, forcing that awful visage right back into your bedwetting nightmares with this post. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.

As you can see in the pic above, the ever-so-controversial NASCAR racer will be jumping off the All-Stars Racing track and onto the page in the upcoming issue #45 of Sonic Universe. The special issue will place special focus on Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed, with characters like Jet Set Radio’s Beat and Skies of Arcadia’s Vyse also making an appearance.

I’ve never been privy to any of Sonic’s comic book excursions, but I can imagine Patrick’s intrusion to be rather irksome. Does anybody care?

  1. The only thing irksome is you-she can use the publicity to gain attention for Nascar-

  2. All of the Sega characters are smirking because a girl finally showed up. Danica looks like a vegetable with that expression on her face.

  3. She looks as uninterested in us as we are in her.

Well, it doesn’t matter what we think any more, she’s a genuine Sega mascot now. All hail Nascar lady!

    • Actually it`s not “we”that aren`t interested. It`s the bigots with their low mentality and foolish remarks. The attention couldn`t hurt. Put glasses on Scott and he looks like Danicas twin

      • Bigots? Really? For being apathetic about a Non-Sega character being in a Sega mash-up franchise? I’m sorry if you want to take this as a attack on NASCAR itself (which it isn’t), but if you would like to engage in an intelligent debate about the topic, it might bolster your case to actually MAKE a case, rather than spend all of your time personally insulting the people you disagree with.

I could give a damn about Danica herself. I know some people hate the way she represents NASCAR to many, but I don’t really mind it either way. I just think it’s absolutely ridiculous that she’s in a game that has no need for her. NASCAR is not hurting for exposure, and her inclusion just feels like an unnecessary ploy to exploit a roster-based game for some extra money. If you’re going to have a sponsorship deal, the least you could do is have the courtesy to keep it away from a genre that is so heavily focused on referencing Sega’s franchises specifically. Now it will always feel like they spent time creating a non-Sega character when they could have spent that same time adding one more obscure fan favorite that will remain forgotten. I also think it adds sting that Sega revealed this as a major announcement, as if we fans would be clamoring at the chance to play as a character that has nothing to with the game she’s in.

Now please, if you have a case to make, I implore you to make it respectfully instead of calling us bigots with low mentality or calling me irksome.

  5. Like it or not Nascar could use exposure and there are “bigots” in the fan base and have shown low mentalities especially those who call call her filthy names-my comment stands and you obviously haven`t a clue. Not all are “bigots so to those this doesn`t apply.

  6. There is a thing called the “constitution” and allows “freedom of speech”If you don`t like my post DON`T READ IT!

    • Well, now that you’ve clarified yourself a bit, I can totally agree that, even looking in from the outside of the NASCAR fanbase, I see a lot of misogyny and disrespect floating around her because of the way she’s marketed as a sex object, and you are right to attack it.

I’m just confused about the leap you’re making where people in this comment thread are the ones you want to attack. Our issue is that a non-Sega, non-videogame character is being included in the game for marketing reasons, not that Danica Patrick is in NASCAR at all, or her role in the sport. As I said, I couldn’t care less about her involvement in racing. So frankly, it’s a bit odd that you’re choosing jumping on people on a Sega-based blog when your argument is better directed towards the general NASCAR fanbase.

Also, I don’t know why you feel the need to invoke the constitution. I wasn’t telling you not to say how you felt, I was imploring you to state your case rather than insult the people who disagree with you. I’m not trying to attack you. I like interesting, respectful debates. πŸ™‚

  7. My post said “the bigots”-it didn`t say everyone was one- and it also said it couldn`t hurt nascar to get some attention-your opinion is yours and mine is mine-telling me how to direct it is again your opinion-just as there are those that have literally called her a whore and worse

  8. Did someone force you to read my post? Did someone force you to respond to it? I suppose you would hold me responsible for manufacturing candy or ice cream because people trying to lose weight can`t resist the temptation. That makes about much sense as N.Y cracking down on xtra large drinks because people aren`t responsible for their taste for sweets-maybe you would be happier in a country where they have dictators
