Ecco the Dolphin was a unique and beautiful game, and one that stood out on the Genesis and Sega CD. The series has been rather silent for 20 years, but the developer, Ed Annunziata, has not stopped thinking about Ecco. Annuziata has begun a Kickstarter project for this latest creation: The Big Blue. The Big Blue takes place in a future where the human race has disappeared and the world is covered in oceans. In the game, you will play as many sea creatures and experience new sea creatures not of this Earth, to solve puzzles, build collections, and go on all types of adventures.
Right now the game looks to be a touch-screen adventure with very captivating visuals, much like the Ecco series. The teams mentions on their Kickstarter page that they are committed to creating the most realistic ocean-based game ever created.
The Kickstarter goal for the game is $650,000, and as of now is slated to be a single-player experience. However, if 50% more than the goal is met, multiplayer and co-op will be added. If twice the goal is met, the game will become an MMO. The game is slated to release in April 2014 and is being developed for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android, with the hopes of going to consoles in the future.
What do you think, Addicts? Are you excited to possibly see a new game in the vein of Ecco the Dolphin? I for one am very curious to see how this project turns out.
